Aboriginal Awareness Week 2010

National Aboriginal Day Pow Wow

Various Artists: Pow Wow
June 21, 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. | Grant Building, Quarterdeck

The Pow wow opened with a prayer in Aboriginal language. The event 

featured local Aboriginal singers, dancers and drummers representing 

several local First Nations – Tsartlip, Saanich and Esquimalt. They performed

 a variety of dances including the highly competitive “fancy dance”. 

Refreshments and bannock, were also served.

An elder shares local First Nations history, discussing territories, relations and languages.

June 24, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. | Grant Building, Quarterdeck

The Royal Roads Aboriginal Relations Coordinator lead participants in this traditional Aboriginal game. 

First Nation dancers performed and Aboriginal artisans displayed crafts.
