Before leaving a career in government in 1998 to begin a new one in consulting and training in the areas of leadership development and change management, Guy was involved in several local and national committees working towards reform in his Department. His familiarity with organizational trends and strategies, as well as his understanding of the principles of leadership, allowed him to provide valuable service in organizational renewal and professional development for the employees and managers of his branch. During his career with the federal government, Guy’s primary focuses were in the areas of administration and Human Resources, particularly in the field of organizational development. In 1997, he was presented with a Deputy Minister's Commendation for outstanding work in the area of change and renewal.
Since that time, in his consulting role, Guy has worked extensively as a designer and facilitator of leadership development programs as well as individual and organizational transition workshops. He has also worked extensively in many closely related areas including teamwork, systems thinking, organizational culture and strategies for adult learning. Guy received his MA from Royal Roads University in 2000 with a focus on leadership development in government. He is also certified in various instruments and methodologies including the “Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument”, a model to help us understand our thinking preferences and improve our decision making and creativity, and “Working with Organizational Character”, an emerging paradigm for understanding organizational behaviour.
Guy has worked with private and public sector clients as well as a number of non-profit organizations. His work often involves an “action research” approach in which he gathers and analyzes data to inform the design and delivery of organizational development interventions. In this way he has been able to ensure that his work meets the real needs of clients and that opportunities for development and improvement are maximized. Guy is also an associate faculty member at Royal Roads University where he has taught in several of their Master’s programs including the MBA and the Master of Arts in Leadership and Training. Guy has also recently completed an extensive research project studying leadership, thinking styles and training strategies for the Department of National Defence.
Currently, Guy is actively working towards his PhD in the area of Human and Organizational Systems. Guy is an avid sailor having raced and cruised all types of sailboats since his childhood. He also enjoys the outdoors and woodworking. He currently lives in Victoria, BC.
