Course Description



Designed for people who have already gathered more than the basic information on their families, this course drills deeper into the research aspect of local, social and family histories, and will help participants understand and write their own family histories in a comprehensive way.

Learning Outcomes: 
  • Participants will gain a much deeper understanding of the benefits of different record types, as well as their pitfalls.
  • Be able to use Internet resources more effectively and now where to look for further information
  • Gain a broader understanding of how to get past the roadblocks faced by all genealogical researchers

Facilitator: Dave Obee has been researching his family history since 1978, when he took a continuing education course offered by Camosun College. He has written nine books on genealogy. He has given more than 250 presentations on genealogy and history throughout Canada and the United States. He is a former president of the Victoria Genealogical Society, and of the Federation of East European Family History Societies.
